What E's and P's have you used to create unity in your piece?
I used many of the elements and principles of design while I was creating my pop culture mosaic. I used value to show the differences in the images chosen, as the mosaic is black and white. I used balance and space to create a balanced pattern between the small images in the mosaic, making sure that no two similar images were side by side. I also used variety by choosing a large combination of images. Pattern and repetition were demonstrated as the mosaic is repeated throughout the background, and dominance/focal point is demonstrated as viewers immediately focus on the main image (The Beatles).
How do your images represent the pop culture era you have chosen?
I chose the Beatles because they ere one of the most influential groups of this era. They changed pop culture forever, and had a huge impact on rock and roll and all music. Other influential people of the 60's which I included are Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, and Martin Luther King Jr. Their impacts on pop culture and society are still seen everyday. Images of hippies, miniskirts, and the creation of the Berlin wall represent social movements and changes in society in the sixties, and it was the first time for many things. Some of these "firsts" include the first moon landing, the first appearance of spiderman, the first issue of Rolling Stone magazine, the first Ford Mustang, and the first episode of Sesame Street. All of these images come together to represent pop culture of the sixties.
